Christmas Traditions and the continuing magic of The Snowman

The Snowman and the SnowDog Christmas advent, blog hop, Christmas, The Snowman,

December is just around the corner – OK, its tomorrow and I’ve still not finished (started!) with my massive Christmas list. But, it all gets done right? The tree needs to come out from the loft, the cards need to be written and posted (yes, I STILL do this every year) and the gifts need to be brought, let alone wrapped.

But, first things first and that means advent. And, what is December without an advent calendar or 2 so when I was asked to take part in a special advent countdown with The Snowman and The Snowman and the Snowdog – how could I refuse?

Is it even Christmas without The Snowman?

It’s a unspoken tradition. Watching The Snowman as a child always meant Christmas was coming and the sense of excitement and anticipation in the air. I have been watching The Snowman since it first aired on TV in 1982 – yes 1982! – I was six years old and I remember the excitement so vividly as we switched over to Channel 4 to watch a book without words come to life. And, of course to hear ‘Walking in the Air.’

It goes without saying that I was overly excited to see the sequel The Snowman and the Snowdog, especially as it debuted in Christmas 2012 which was Miss Marnie’s first Christmas too. I know she was too young to watch it but watching it with my family and new baby means it holds a special place in my heart. Fast forward a few years and watching it again with Miss M – now she can watch and enjoy – brings back happy memories and is the start of hopefully her own Christmas memories and traditions.

Miss M was overwhelmed with the lovely hamper of Snowman goodies we were sent to enjoy – as was I especially as some of the items were personalised. They will go towards filling a bumper Christmas Eve box some which we can enjoy year after year.

Here’s a little peek of what we received and what is on offer this year to celebrate 35 years of The Snowman and 5 years of The Snowman and the Snowdog.

I remember that Christmas too, although that’s surprising as I was only three!! I definitely remember watching Aled Jones on Top of the Pops though. Christmas memories and traditions are the best.
