At this time of year when I was young I loved nothing better than getting home from school, getting into my pyjamas and playing with my toys – I was a child of the late seventies/early eighties so would have had whatever was the hot toy at the time.
One toy I remember having was a My Little Pony. Although, unlike some of my friends I only ever had one and I think it was blue and pink one. Unfortunately, unlike a lot of my retro toys this wasn’t one that was kept but they have come into my life again through Miss Marnie.
She regularly watches the tv series on Netflix but it’s the toys that have really captured her. She has had a few miniature ponies as gifts and loves to play with them and make up stories – and as I did as a child, she loves nothing better than returning from school, getting into her pj’s and setting up play scenes.
When the lovely people at Argos asked if we wanted to see, try and play with some of the new My Little Pony products in the run up to the new movie – I knew I couldn’t say no! Although, with a houseful of toys it would have been so easy to….
Anyway, I gave Miss M the chance to choose from the massive selection of 30-odd products they have on offer at Argos. The My Little Pony toys range from those pocket-money friendly blind bags to classic single pony toys (that are ideal as birthday party gifts) to full-on playsets and collections that make perfect show-stopping Christmas presents.
She went for the My Little Pony movie pieces including My Little Pony: The Movie Seashell Lagoon Playset, My Little Pony: The Movie Scene Pack with Pinkie Pie and My Little Pony: Shining Friends Figure Assortment with Rainbow Dash
She loves a ‘scene setting’ toy just like these – little house’s, cafe’s and shops. She has been happily playing underwater cafe and soft play with the lagoon set. It has also got her excited about the upcoming movie next month.
She has been so captured by these new playsets – which I have to say, are made of much sturdier plastic that I thought and are actually – for plastic toys – not too much of an eyesore. The bright colours and cute little details like the cafe snacks and cakes, the underwater treasure chest and jewels and even the mermaid-style ponies are great quality.
Now, Miss Marnie wants us to get a set for her friend’s birthday which is soon, so I have to mention the fantastic fast-track service Argos offer – which for £3.95 you can get same-day home delivery, 7 days a week – how much easier is that going to make last-minute shopping come Christmas time?
** This post is in partnership with Argos but all thoughts, words and pictures are mine and Miss M’s own of course.
I was born in the same era & was a fan. I distinctly remember a pink one with blue hair (& flowers on its bum, naturally); I think it was called ‘Daddy Glory’! P is yet to see it on T.V but has made a beeline for the toys when she sees them in store. Horses were my first ever love & I used to read ‘Horse & pony’ magazine back when it was still in black & white. Have a feeling some plastic creations are going to end up living with us soon enough 😉
Being a mere male, it’s not something I played with, but I do remember My Little Pony being extremely popular
