Looking East for rustic interior style inspired by Bon Ton Resort in Malaysia {Staycation Style #6}

I feel lucky enough to have visited a few places on special holidays and weekends away but I don’t think anywhere has stayed so vivid in my mind as Bon Ton Restaurant & Resort in Malaysia.

We visited Malaysia with friends and did a mini travelling holiday starting with a city break in Kuala Lumpur, from there we went to Langkawi (where Bon Ton is) and then finally Penang. One thing about Malaysia is you can stay in some pretty amazing places and it doesn’t cost a fortune – Bon Ton is one such place.

What makes Bon Ton Resort so special that it offers the opportunity to stay in genuine Malay stilted wooden houses (that are over a century old) on a  former coconut plantation. Each of the eight houses have been transformed in blissfully private rooms. Each villa room has been decorated with traditional furniture, fabrics, has old plantation-style shutters, sun deck balconies and even open-air bathrooms.

An idyllic little hideaway with a long style swimming pool and sun loungers (where you’re served poolside snacks each day around 4pm), the renowned on-site restaurant Nam serves up eastern/western fusion specialities (I had one of my most memorable meals ever here – Grilled lamb, aubergine, hummus and mint salad) and Chin Chin the hotel bar is housed in a antique Chinese shop house – order the house signature drink Pineapple and Mint Tea.

But, my favourite part is the owner uses the profits to fund a private animal sanctuary next door  – so cats (and dogs supervised in the evening) roaming around the resort is considered very much normal.

I may have visited a many years ago but I hope to get back there one day. Until then how about some Bon Ton inspired interiors that will add a touch of eastern style to your bedroom, lounge or even conservatory?
