When I was planning my 40th
birthday that you can read here – I knew I wanted to do something for Miss Marnie and my friends children who we were all away with in Camber Sands (read about our beach house here).
My idea was the throw the seven kids ranging from 4 weeks to 6 years their own little 1970’s themed party
before us adults celebrated with a 1970’s Dinner Party in evening which you can read here.
I tried to think back to
parties I had had as a child and planned a little retro tea-party just for them.
My lovely friends at
Mothercare dressed them all in Little Bird by Jools Oliver – which of course is based on
Jools’ memories of clothes she wore from her own seventies childhood.
With bold florals, high waisted dungarees, pinafore dresses and towelling polo tops – the bright pops of colour were perfect for a late afternoon garden party.
I threw out the
not-too-much-sugar rule and indulged them all with some sweet treats I enjoyed in my younger years –
in fact I still have a massive weakness for party rings now.
Here’s what I served and what they all wore:
Marnie wears: Fish Print T-shirt £6 & Ponte Shorts with Braces £14
Lili wears: Kite Raglan Sleeve T-shirt from £6 & Floral Skirt from £12
Poppy wears: Crayon T-shirt from £7 & Pinafore Dress from £12
Avedon wears: Terry Towelling T-shirt from £7 & Lightwash Turn-Up Jeans £8
Charlotte wears: Striped and Floral T-shirt £6 & Pinafore Dress from a selection
