Have you ever been to a hotel and thought ‘oh my, I could soooo live here?’
That’s exactly how I felt when I first stayed at Casa La Siesta.
Casa La Siesta is in a little village called Vejer de la Frontera and a traditional style ‘cortijo’ or Spanish country house. Beautifully restored to offer a tranquil stay in a rural setting it stylishly decorated with reclamation and vintage pieces – and it immediately feels ‘homely’.
We visited pre-parenthood – Casa is an adults only retreat anyway. Think healthy, locally sourced meals, roll tops baths and big comfy beds, no TV and the best bit tranquil peace and quiet surroundings.
The house is decked out in cosy muted tones, the lavender filled gardens scent the air and the big open fireplace all add to the rustic charm. We first stayed here as part of a Spanish train travelling holiday that took us from Madrid to Seville, then here and finally onto Mallorca.
I didn’t realise it at first but 3 out of the 4 places we stayed at all made perfect wedding destinations – so when Mr VIB finally proposed on this holiday after 15 years together – it seemed fitting to have a small family wedding back here in Spain.
With both of us having quite a large family this was also a way to contain numbers and keep it informal and more personal to us. It also meant we got to go back to this little piece of Spanish heaven. Casa La Siesta has had many weddings here before – but ours was the first one at Christmas time.
Although, it was an eventful weekend (it was the weekend of all the heavy snow that caused most of the UK airports to close) and was a nightmare for some of our guests to get there – some that didn’t even make it.
Because of this I had really wanted to go back to Casa La Siesta on our 5th wedding anniversary (and also our 20 years together) last December – with the people who had missed our wedding but these things never happen do they?
We have yet to get back to this little secret hideaway on the Spanish coast – but the memories of the place are as fresh as ever.
So, until then I will just have to try and get the look at home:
CASA LA SIESTA
This stunning atmospheric ‘cortijo’ or Spanish country house in Andalucía lives up to its name as the ‘house of sleep’. Olive and orange trees, banks of scented lavender and luxury furnishing give it a homely feel without comprising on style. Think wooden beams, antique tiles and Moorish touches.
