When I was asked to work on a special Mother’s Day collaboration with I Love Gorgeous – I didn’t need to be asked twice!
If you haven’t heard of I Love Gorgeous it’s one of two beautiful boutiques based in North London (and online) that sells the most – well gorgeous – clothes for little girls.
Launched 2006 by two friends and mothers who after having girls themselves (and having fashion backgrounds) wanted to design a modern, fun and feminine collection but with a vintage twist for girls age 0-15 years.
I’ve been into the I Love Gorgeous store in Ledbury Road before – when Miss M was young – but felt that these ‘special clothes’ loved by the likes of Kate Moss, Sienna Miller and Thandie Newton were really only for ‘special occasions’ and not right for everyday.
How wrong I was?
Yes! The clothes are special and perfect for weddings, parties and the like – but really what makes them ‘special’ is that they should be loved and worn everyday. I have found that keeping items for special occasions goes against what being a little girl is all about.
Why not wear sequins to dinner? Twirl around in tulle skirts at playtime? And, run about in gold ballerina slippers? Clothes are meant to be fun – and girls just want to have fun, right?
To prove this Miss Marnie and I were invited into store to pick some of our favourite pieces from the new Spring/Summer collections.
The main themes running through the I Love Gorgeous rails were based on Beach Combing (seashells, seahorses motifs), Festival Chic (feathers, floral and tassel details), Boho Babe (Ikat prints, jumpsuits) and Summer Shimmer (star prints, sequins and gold tones). We had a ‘hard’ task on our hands….
We had fun choosing some pieces together and it was so nice to have a store dedicated to just girls – somewhere where we can have a relaxed and girlie shopping trip.
We then entered the amazing spacious and vintage style changing room for a little styling session. The changing room was again a mother-and-daughter shopping haven – a chair for me and a little chair for Miss M.
There was also a box of toys and books, a big full length mirror and ample space for hanging clothes (and in Miss M’s case flinging around) and dancing!
After nearly an hour (of styling, photographing and chasing a toddler) we made our selection and will be showing you what we’ve chosen when Miss M steps out in her I Love Gorgeous pieces on Mother’s Day.
Watch this space!
