A push present is a gift a father gives to the
mother to mark the occasion of her giving birth to their child.
Or, in real terms an Olympic medal for making it to the
finish line!
I joke but really after nine months of your body not
being your own, it sure is nice on the day your bundle of joy arrives – you get
something that is just for you.
In practice the present may be given before or after the
birth, or even in the delivery room. After the birth of Miss Marnie I received
a beautiful Baby Bumble Bee necklace – as my bump was often referred to as baby
b!
It’s so special to me, is loaded with unique memories
and something I hope to be able to pass down to Miss M to treasure one day. Just like my
grandmother who has passed down her eternity ring (traditionally what was given after
the birth of your first child) to me in my early twenties.
So, when I was invited to view the new Circle of Life
collection from SWAG I was interested to see what push presents – or baby baubles they had on offer.
And, I have to say I was very impressed, as not only have this boutique family jewellers created a unique collection of beautiful
jewellery to mark this special moment – they’ve announced they are one of the
six official partners with the government initiative Your Parent Guide.
Your Parent Guide is a magazine and online guide that
will be given to new parents when they register the birth of their baby. It
will include expert tips and advice on all those new baby worries in those first few years – from feeding
(breast and bottle), PND, weaning, first holidays and lots more.
SWAG’s Circle of Life collection includes pendents,
earrings and classic eternity rings with diamonds, emeralds, rubies and
sapphires priced from £595 – £850 and will include a further three small capsule
collections over the next year. There will be a less expensive range of
jewellery for those on a tighter budget as well (great news if you have more than one
child!)
But what really makes this collection special is that
SWAG will be donating 20% of the profits from the Circle of Life collection to
PANDAS – a pre and post natal depression charity. It’s estimates 15-20% of
women suffer with some form of depression when having a baby.
The message behind SWAG’s Circle of Life collection is a
positive one and anything that helps a woman know that it’s ‘ok not to be ok’,
or make a woman feel better about herself at this highly emotional time gets a
tick in my book.
And if it also includes diamonds then all the
better!
* The Circle of Life collection is available in store and
online from now to coincide with the launch of Your Parent Guide.
