A few Saturday’s back Miss Marnie and I took a girlie trip into town to attend a special kids summer hair event.
Hosted by Child’s Farm we headed to swish salon Neville Hair and Beauty in Sloane Street. Where Miss M was treated to a whole host of beauty treats…
From quick summer hairstyles including this ‘halo braid’ – which is so much easier than it looks. I have since done it on her myself (and can I say, proudly to many a compliment too!) It’s basically a French (under) plait started from the side rather than top…

My attempts at the ‘Halo Braid’…after the event! |
As well as having her nails painted with Little BU (the fab wash off, toxin-free nail polish for kids), some classy face painting and also a little balloon art with the most amazing balloon modeller I have ever seen. Really.
Twistina (who’s hubby is called Twistopher) – made these animals, flowers and bugs in the flash of an eye and cleverly ties on hair bands so they sit on even the smallest wrists a bit like a balloon corsage.
Anyway, back to hair. Miss M and I constantly fight over the ‘hair-up hair-down’ dilemma in the mornings. I, of course being just like my mum like it tidy and tied up in some way and she loves it unbrushed, down and crazy a little like her other nanny – Nanny Cornwall!
When she was smaller – bunches were my ultimate love – and now she just pulls them out the minute I have finished twisting in the second band!
As for washing. It’s done. Quickly. And, nowadays to only a few tears/screams/yells.
So, inspired by our little pamper morning here is our top 10 good hair buys and a mini hair essentials giveaway too! (see below for more details)
* Miss M’s Top 9 Good-Hair Day Must-Haves*
For keeping hair back – and added fun too. We took these to Disneyland Paris too…
1) Sparkly mouse ears £30 Woodstock London
Detangles even the most ‘nest’ like of hairstyles – smells beyond amazing (and scent last for days too!)
2) Natural No More Knots Detangling Spray £11.99 Love Boo
This super-absorbent towel make light work of hair dying and actually stays on little heads too! Miss M loves that it’s like mine (from Soap & Glory)
3) Cuddletwist Bamboo hair towel £9.99 Cuddledry
As a fan of the Tangle Teezer myself – this kid friendly version was a given that I would love. Perfect for small hands and clever that you can store hair clips and bands in the pot too.
4) Magic Flowerpot detangling hairbrush £10.99 Tangle Teezer
We have less tears in the tub when we use this soft and flexible jug – because it moulds to the front of the head as you rinse the hair – and less soap in the eyes.
5) Shampoo Rinser £4.50 Munchkin
Perfect for daily brushing and taming – we love the Tangle Tamer brushes by Denman. This limited-edition one features the Child’s Farm pony Buster.
6) Tangle Tamer brush £3.99 Denman
I think a good quality shampoo is a must. Especially, if we’re skipping conditioner – and just using a detangler – for those nights we need to get in-and-out of the bathroom in record time. These are scented with strawberry and organic mint and leave hair squeaky clean.
7) Shampoo for luscious locks £3.99 Child’s Farm
8) Conditioner for unruly locks £3.99 Child’s Farm
We’ve just discovered these gorgeous handmade hair bands, clips and bows – and are big fans already. We especially like the Liberty of London collection.
9) Hair band and clip from a selection at Luciole et Petit Pois
I like to rub coconut oil into the ends of hair, put it in a bun or braid overnight then wash as normal in the morning. Leaves hair silky soft and refreshed!!
That event looks fantastic. I love the fact that there is a kid friendly non-toxic nail varnish out there (why did I not know about this?!) Miss Marnie looks gorgeous with her halo braid. I also resort to putting Little Miss H's hair up in bunches. It looks so darn cute. And I always use Child's Farm shampoo. In fact, Mr H used it once and sent me a text to say that he was having the best hair day he had ever had. Hugs Mrs H xxxx
Penelope has had long, curly hair since the day she was born! The best hair care tip I have is to provide a distraction while tackling the knots! Particularly after peanut butter and banana on toast!!! 🙈😆👌🏻 xx
Great comp I need that little lot in my life with three girls – love her braid as well I have such a thing for plaits at the moment in my own hair and the kids, best hair care tip for kids is to start from the bottom and work your way up and use a tangle teezer x
This is such a lovely post (and brill comp) – the Halo plat is gorgeous but it helps that your Little Mrs is a stunner 🙂 And those nails!!!! Swoon!!!!
My Little Miss doesn't have much hair at the moment – so my best haircare tip is to ensure you get your little ones tresses trimmed frequently. After just one trip my little miss has double the amount of hair she had just a few weeks ago xxxx
