When you get parents designing kids fashion you know that practicality is going to be at the forefront. But, add to that parents who themselves are influential trendsetters – and it’s a match made in fashion-heaven. So, mamas as your shopping guardian angel I bring you – AKID.
AKID is a supercool, hand crafted footwear brand born in the USA offering a fresh and modern collection of easy-to-wear designer shoes that are far from stuffy.
Designed by husband and wife Ashleigh Dempster and Matt George. Matt is the owner of footwear brands including Nomad, Stüssy Tronto and Goodfoot (as well as a business consultant to Kayne West no less) and Ashleigh is a successful creative manager.
The couple – who are based in LA – were inspired to create AKID by their two young boys Jasper and Julian. Who saw a gap in the market for kids shoes that weren’t an ‘afterthought’ in terms of design.
Hand crafted from premium leathers and materials, stylish colour and prints and so easy-to-wear (and put on). Ideal for rough and tumble, yet too-cool-for-school boys and girls with toddler-friendly zippers and super-soft fabrics meaning kids can wear them sock-free.
When I first saw the collection I was almost rejoicing at finding shoes that weren’t covered in motifs, embellishments and in boring colour ways. These are the kids shoes you have been looking for but didn’t know where to get them – until now!
So, mamas you know your kids feet are in super-stylish hands.

“As a mom, I know first-hand the challenges of dressing young children. I want to break away from the typical, but stay practical. I don’t want to fuss around with laces and want high quality products for approachable prices. And, I want my little men to look cool!”
