The Christmas countdown can’t begin until the John Lewis TV advert airs. Can it? We wait patiently and then BOOM it hits the screens. And, it’s all we can talk, cry and tweet..about.
This year’s is no exception – it’s a tearjerker. Love it or hate it (of course I love!) It’s a 60-second reminder about the spirit of giving at Christmas. (Yes, I know its a retail shop and the real meaning is about spending. But, lets just gloss over that!).
The story of love, friendship and giving someone what they’ve been dreaming about shown through the eyes of a little boy called Sam and his best friend Monty the Penguin. Watch them play, eat and get excited in the lead up to Christmas – until Sam realises Monty is missing something!
Of, course what he’s missing is a mate and under the tree on the big day is Mabel, a lady penguin. This all plays out to a it’s tried-and-tested music formula – an old song sung by a modern star.
The song ‘Real Love’ is by John Lennon but sung by Tom Odell. But, my favourite part – buy the CD and John Lewis will donate 89p from each sold to WWF to help protect the habitat of the Adélie penguin (a type that is common to the entire Antarctic coast).
What’s more you can pick up your own penguin inspired pieces (of course) in John Lewis as well as the story book for £8.99 – I always think the book makes a great gift for a new baby’s first Christmas – and a whole host of Monty & Mable pieces. Here’s my picks:
|£1.20 from the sale of each book will be donated to Barnardo’s too!|
|Explore Montys Christmas with some virtual reality goggles too (in stores nationwide)…|
And, here’s a few more penguin inspired pieces to get your little ones in the spirit…
